Reported Crop Circles for the State of Iowa -

Van Horne / Garrison, Benton County (July 12, 1969)

Van Horne formationAt around 11 p.m., Patti Bahr and Kathy Mahr, two teenage cousins, hear a loud roaring noise while upstairs in their house. They look out the window to see a reddish-orange BOL rotating / spinning counter-clockwise above the adjacent soybean field.

The next morning they told the farmer Warren Barr, who then discovered a 24' diameter, nearly-bare oval in the soybean field. The plants left were severely dehydrated, dry, and brittle. This case was investigated by several groups at the time; localized intense heat or radiation was listed as most likely cause.

Crop type: Soybeans
